Disappearance of Lebanese journalist Gisèle Khoury: a committed woman who devoted her life to journalism and the defense of freedom of expression

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Lebanese journalist Gisèle Khoury, who worked for Lebanese, pan-Arab television and for the BBC and who was the founding president of the Samir Kassir Foundation. The Journalism & Citizenship team joins in the grief of her family, her friends and journalists in the Arab world. A committed woman, the widow of Samir Kassir, a Lebanese journalist and intellectual assassinated in June 2005 in a bomb attack, Gisèle Khoury devoted her entire life to journalism and the defense of freedom of expression in a region where this freedom is today more mistreated than ever.

J&C salutes the work accomplished by Gisèle Khoury with her team at the Samir Kassir Foundation since 2006 for the defense of journalism and freedom of expression, a commitment that we fully share.

A tribute to Gisèle Khoury will be planned during the third edition of the International Agora for Journalism in Tunis which will take place from November 23 to 25, 2023 and which will bring together hundreds of journalists from the Arab world, Africa and Europe.
