Signing of the Charter on Editorial Approach to Migration

Date of event : 29 April
Timetable : 18:15
Location : Palais of Pharo - Auditorium

in French, Arabic & English

As with gender issues and the climate emergency, we need to train and support editorial teams to better combat misinformation. The needs of editorial teams and the dissemination of good practice are essential in the face of current migration issues. An initial exchange in Paris in December 2024 provided an opportunity to sound out the profession, followed by 4 months of work to draw up an editorial charter on the coverage of migration issues for French newsrooms.

This charter guides journalists towards an ethical, accurate, and respectful coverage of migration issues. It establishes seven fundamental principles, including :

  • respect for dignity
  • combating stereotypes
  • professional responsibility
  • balance between factual and human aspects
  • continuous training
  • expanded communication
  • regular evaluation of practices

Its goal is to promote responsible journalism that contextualizes migration and gives a voice to those affected.
