The Sahafa Med program invited 20 journalists from southern Mediterranean countries, some of them exiled in Europe, to the 17th edition of the Assises du journalisme in Tours, which took place from March 25 to 30, 2024. On this occasion, students from the EPJT (École publique de journalisme de Tours) conducted video interviews with four journalists from the Southern-Mediterranean region – from Tunisia to Jordan, via Syria and Palestine. These encounters in French and Arabic between the two shores of the Mediterranean enabled journalism students to discover the situation of the journalists and the media in the southern region.
Manoubi Marouki, member of the Tunisian Press Council, spoke about the state of press freedom in Tunisia and the role of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists in protecting journalists.
Mirna Abou Zeid presented the Jordan Media Institute and the situation of journalists in Jordan.
Palestinian journalist Muzna Shihabi spoke about Western media coverage of the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.
Finally, the last interview – conducted in Arabic – with Syrian journalist Manar Abdulrazak from radio Nasaem FM, who spoke about the situation of Syrian journalists.
