In each of our countries, journalism is an emergency.
We’re finally gathering again and it feels really good. In 2018, we made the commitment to meet here in Tunis every two years, and build together the great meeting of journalism that we need so much in the Middle-East, North Africa and Sub-saharan Africa.
The global pandemic that is shaking up our lives has twice succeeded in delaying this reunion, but it has not succeeded in weakening our collective determination to continue the great adventure of the International Agora for Journalism in Tunis.
On the eve of November 17, 2018, when we closed the first edition, two sisters had read, in Arabic and French, “the Tunis Declaration” to state the absolute necessity of journalism ; one that is useful to everyone. The emotion was great. Hope too. 800 journalists from 28 countries shared their experiences, compared their practices, and demonstrated such energy that it is hard to forget!
In this spring of 2022, the passion is intact, but it cannot hide our concerns! Beyond the pandemic that has so severely affected our societies, freedom has receded everywhere. Freedom of mouvement. Freedom of expression. Freedom of the press. And more and more journalists are threatened, imprisoned, for the sole reason that they practice their profession rigorously.
All of our countries know that there is no common future without journalism! An independent information, rigorous and respectful of the facts, is at the heart of our ability to understand the world. To live together.
We thank all of our partners in Tunisia and in Europe, all the professional organizations, the journalists’ unions, the collectives and to the NGOs for their presence and involvement.

في كل بلد من بلادنا، هناك حاجة ماسة للصحافة!
أخيرا ها نحن هنا مجتمعون معاَ! كم هو لشعورٌ جميل!
لقد تعهدنا باللقاء هنا كل عامين، في تونس، لنبني معًا الحدث الصحفي العظيم الذي نحتاجه بشدة على الضفة الجنوبية للبحر الأبيض المتوسط وفي القارة الأفريقية.
لقد نجحت الجائحة العالمية التي قلبت حياتنا رأساً على عقب، في تأجيل موعد لقائنا مرتين، لكنها فشلت في التأثير على عزيمتنا مواصلة هذه المغامرة الكبرى لتنظيم المنتدى الدولي للصحافة بتونس!
في مساء يوم 17 من تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2018، وخلال الحفل الختامي للدورة الأولى للمنتدى في مدينة الثقافة، قرأ على مسامعنا زميلان، باللغتين العربية والفرنسية، “إعلان تونس” الذي نص على الضرورة المطلقة للصحافة، ولصحافة “مفيدة” لمواطنينا.
كانت المشاعر جياشة والامنيات كبيرة. حيث شارك 800 صحفي وصحفية من 28 دولة جنوب للبحر الأبيض المتوسط تجاربهم وممارساتهم، وأظهروا طاقة كبيرة في حدث لن ينسى أبداً!
في ربيع عام 2022 ، لا يزال الشغف موجوداً على حاله، لكنه لا يمكن أن يخفي مخاوفنا! إلى جانب الجائحة التي أصابت مجتمعاتنا بشدة، تراجعت الحرية في كل مكان! حرية التنقل، حرية التعبير، الصحافة، الحرية بجميع أوجهها، وخصوصاً مع تزايد أعداد الصحافيين المهدين والمسجونين وكل ذلك لسبب واحد وهو ممارسة مهنتهم بأمانة وعزيمة.
ومع ذلك، فإن جميع بلداننا تعلم جيدًا أنه لا يوجد مستقبل مشترك بدون صحافة! خبرٌ بعيدٌ عن هيمنة السلطة، خبرٌ يحترم الأحداث هو ما نحتاجه لفهم هذا العالم. للعيش معا.
شكرنا الخالص لجميع المنظمات المهنية ونقابات الصحفيين والجمعيات التعاونية والمنظمات غير الحكومية التي بدونها لم يكن من المكن عقد هذا اللقاء الرائع.
