Visiting French newsrooms

On the day before the 17th edition of the Assises de Journalisme in Tours, some twenty journalists from southern Mediterranean countries visited the editorial rooms of Médiapart and France Médias Monde Those visits took place on Monday, March 25, 2024 as part of the Sahafa Med program, a Journalism & Citizenship program and supported by the European Union.

In the morning, the journalists began their visit by attending Médiapart’s editorial meeting. The journalists went through the day’s topics, ranging from the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Middle East to national issues about the French government and various other topics. After the meeting, the journalists were welcomed by Edwy Plenel, founder of Médiapart, and journalists from the international newsroom.

Discussions focused on media coverage of the war in the Middle East, the importance of working with local journalists to cover international news, and public access to information. The question of language was also addressed. Some Médiapart articles are translated into English and Spanish.

In the afternoon, the journalists visited the France Médias Monde offices. Welcomed by Albéric de Gouville, Editor-in-Chief at France 24, the journalists visited the studios of France 24 (in its three languages) and Monte Carlo Doualiya. Editors-in-chief and presenters explained how the various programs are produced.
