7:00 PM – 7:30 PM // Screening of the documentary Russia’s Shadow Army (2026 – 26 minutes) – An exclusive investigation led by an independent journalist, published by Novaya Gazeta (the Russian opposition newspaper) in partnership with ARTE Reportage. An anonymous Russian journalist tracks down online messages from Russian families and decides to investigate the tens of thousands of soldiers reported missing on the Ukrainian front. Over the course of more than a year, he gathers rare testimonies regarding the desperate quest of these soldiers’ loved ones—who are “missing in action”—to find a father, husband, or son. The resulting report reveals the tragic consequences of Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine for the Russian population itself, the staggering losses authorities attempt to conceal, and the difficulty of reporting on the conflict in a country where criticizing the “special military operation” is as dangerous for those who agree to speak out as it is for the journalist gathering their accounts.
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM // Debate: “Reporting from Russia; Reporting from Ukraine,” moderated by Carolin Ollivier (Editor-in-Chief of ARTE Journal and Deputy Director of News). Panelists include Thibaut Bruttin (Director General of Reporters Without Borders), Kirill Martinov (co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Novaya Gazeta), and Lydia Taran (correspondent in France for the Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform—subject to confirmation).
